Mumbai Police are looking for an unidentified man who today called the police control room claiming to be a top official of the Punjab Police and said terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was going to carry out a strike in the city.
The call, which turned out to be hoax, was received at Maharashtra police control room in the Director General of Police's office at south Mumbai around 12.20 am.
The caller identified himself as Punjab Inspector General of Police S S Chavan.
"He informed the control room that he had received a phone call from one Harish Arya, who claimed to be an Indian Mujahideen terrorist. He said Arya had threatened to blow up Vikhroli railway station today at 11 am," said Subhash Vele, Senior Inspector, Oshiwara police station.
The control room immediately informed the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Government Railway Police and Mumbai Police.
"The caller had also given Arya's mobile number, from which the ATS managed to find Arya's address. Preliminary enquiry by ATS revealed that Arya is no terrorist," Vele told PTI.
Police suspect that the caller was nursing some grudge against Arya and wanted to put him in trouble.
