Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today asked officials to take decisions without fear, saying the government would back honest decision-making.
Prasad, in an official statement, asked the officials to "...Shun any fear in decision making" and assured them that "the government shall fully back the honest decision making".
After 2G spectrum case, there has been fear among government officials to take decisions. In case of the DoT, this was reflected in the penalties imposed on operators.
DoT officials imposed maximum penalty of up to Rs 50 crore even for minor mistakes, which added to woes of the companies. Government has to come up with final rules to rationalise penalty decisions, which are expected to be notified soon.
During his interaction with Telecom department officials, the Minister laid down main criteria for better governance -- prompt decision making, fairness and transparency and having clearly laid down rules of business. He also emphasised that consumer issues should be given top priority.
Prasad advised the officials to follow the objective of national interest, economic growth and consumer interest during the meet.
The statement further said the Minister promised to look into the issues connected with the human resources of the ministry.
