"The West Bengal government has given Rs 50 crore to renovate the heritage campus. The existing laboratories, buildings, pathways and common spaces will also be revamped in tune with the Heritage Commission," VC of Presidency University Anuradha Lohia said.
She said that new assets like creation of a museum and exhibition spaces, modernisation of laboratories and an open air ampitheatre would also come up.
Starting as Hindoo College in 1817, it became Presidency College in 1855 and then turned into a unversity in 2010.
The celebrations, which would continue throughout 2017, would also be attended by noted alumni of the erstwhile college from across the world.
The formal inauguration of the celebrations would be at the hands of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on January sixth evening at the riverside Princep Ghat.
President Pranab Mukherjee has been invited to come on January 20, the Founder's Day, she said.
The closing ceremony would be in December 2017, she said, adding that the Rajarhat campus was likely to be inaugurated then.
Regarding the Darjeeling campus, Lohia said that Rs 93 crore had been sanctioned by the state government and the buildings would be ready within two to three years.
