Prez mourns loss of lives in floods in UP, Bihar

President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the loss of lives in floods in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and expressed the hope that state governments would be working towards relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
In separate messages sent to Governors of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh D Y Patil and Ram Naik respectively, Mukherjee said "I am saddened to know about the unprecedented floods in certain areas of the state, which have caused loss of lives, injuries and damage to property. I understand rescue and relief operations are currently underway.
"I am sure the state government and other authorities are making all efforts to bring relief to those affected and also providing assistance to the people who have incurred losses," he said.

The President also asked the Governors to convey his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. "I pray to the Almighty to give the families who have lost their dear ones the strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss," he said.
As many as 48 people died due to flash floods in Uttar Pradesh while life in various parts of Bihar was affected by the unprecedented rains.
