Britain's Prince George today arrived for his first day at primary school in London holding the hand of his father, Prince William, but his mother Kate Middleton missed the occasion because of severe morning sickness.
The four-year-old Prince is attending Thomas's Battersea Primary School which costs 18,000-pounds-a-year. The school is one of the city's leading independent schools.
Prince William, who was carrying George's school bag, dropped him through the school gates. George walked from the car and then had a formal handshake with Helen Haslem, the head of lower school.
Prince George, the third in line to the British throne after his grandfather Prince Charles and father William, looked down as he walked dressed in his new school uniform of navy shorts and jacket, long red socks and black shoes.
His mother, Kate, is still recovering from acute morning sickness since her third pregnancy was announced earlier this week and was too ill to join the four-year-old to the school gates of Thomas's Battersea primary school near their Kensington Palace home in London.
"We are going to try and make this a really happy, safe and secure time," said Ben Thomas, principal of Thomas's London Day Schools said.
"The whole aim of these precious years of early education is to give children that confidence in who they really are. The global spotlight has been a little bit daunting but that will move on and we are looking forward to a time when he is just another Thomas's pupil," he added.
Prince George's curriculum will touch upon various subjects like "understanding the world", "expressive arts and design" and "communication and language" along with mathematics, english and science classes.
Art, ballet, drama, Information and communications technology(ICT), French, music, and physical education are all taught from day one.
George joins school just few days after his parents announced the arrival of his brother or sister.
