Despite the boom in electronic and digital media, newspapers will continue to have acceptance in India at least for the next several years, CEO of Prasar Bharati Jawhar Sircar said today.
"There is a growing demand for TV and digital media across the world and India is not excluded. But the print media will continue to mark its presence for the next several years," Sircar told an interactive session organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Sircar said that globally, circulation of the print media was falling, while in India it was rising which was due to rising literacy in the country.
In India, print revenue from advertising would rise from Rs 15,000 crore in 2012 to Rs 25,000 crore in 2017, while that from subscription would increase from Rs 7500 crore to Rs 9300 in the same period.
Regarding radio, he said that the popularity of FM would increase the reach of the media.
