Prisoner falls ill in jail, dies on way to hospital

A prisoner of Baruipur Correctional Home in South 24 Parganas district has died after a brief illness, police said on Thursday.

The 31-year-old prisoner fell ill in the correctional home on Wednesday evening.

He was taken to Baruipur sub-divisional hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, the police said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, an officer of Baruipur police station said.

Efforts are on to get in touch with the family of the deceased, the officer said.
