The Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in resolving various long- standing issues that have been "hurting" the growth of the sector.
In a memorandum, CAPSI chairperson Kunwar Vikram Singh said the sector currently employs 70 lakh people in 22,000 private security agencies.
It is one of largest private sector employers in India and the private security sector has been growing at a rate of 22 per cent per annum.
It is one of largest corporate tax contributors.
"But still it is neglected. We urge the prime minister to proactively consider our demands and save the sector which could prove crucial for success of skill India and also in generating jobs," said Singh, who also heads the Security Sector Skill Development Council (SSSDC).
Listing the demands, he said a fair tender process by government or public sector undertakings was necessary to promote competition.
The CAPSI has also demanded that GST be made on reverse charge basis so that service taker is made to pay GST and not the service providers.
Singh said the current GST regime is hurting the sector financially and that there is a need for amendments of the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act in consultation with the security agencies.
