The volunteers, comprising mostly of women, then staged a sit-in protest over the state Congress's 'failure' in getting the assent of the President to convert three ILP related Bills into Acts.
The volunteers also headed for the CPI office but returned as no members of CPI were present there, police said.
Ten persons, including three policewomen, were injured when student and women wing of JCILPS tried to storm the state BJP office yesterday. The police lobbed tear gas shells and used batons to disperse them.
JCILPS has been demanding conversion of three Bills passed by Manipur Assembly in August last year into Acts to protect the indigenous population from illegal immigration.
The Bills were introduced in the Assembly after the State Government signed an agreement with JCILPS on August 25 following an agitation by it demanding implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
