Pro-LTTE diaspora is still active: Lankan Army chief

The pro-LTTE diaspora is still active despite the end of the nearly three decades-long civil war in 2009, Sri Lanka's Chief of Defence Staff said today.
"We have won the war but we have not given up watching the action of the pro-LTTE diaspora. They are out to discredit Sri Lanka", Jagath Jayasuirya said.
He said that the pro-LTTE Tamils in Britain have signed petitions calling for Prime Minister David Cameron's boycott of the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Sri Lanka in November.
"The LTTE diaspora are continuing their Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) project. Their dream of a Tamil Eelam (a separate state) is still alive. They still believe in the Eelam myth", Jayasuriya, who took over as the chief of defence staff this month, said.

Jayasuriya became the first post-LTTE chief of the Army, succeeding the war-winning Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, immediately after the LTTE's three-decades-old campaign was militarily defeated.
Jayasuriya said that Tamils' dream of a separate state was reflected in an incident where four Tamil academics worked with the TGTE in the guise of pursuing research work in Britain.
The chief of defence staff said that the four from state universities had joined the main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance, during their visit to Britain to further their pro-LTTE action.
