Protests at BJP Delhi office over choice of poll candidates

Disgruntled BJP workers today held protests outside the party's Delhi unit office to vent their ire over some of the names on its list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls even as senior leader Nitin Gadkari held a meeting inside, asking members to stay united.
Supporters of party leaders who had sought tickets from the Seelampur, Badarpur, Ballimaran and Najafgarh seats gathered outside the BJP office on Pant Marg in the morning and shouted slogans and waved flags and placards to register their opposition to some of the names on the candidates' list.
The irate BJP wokers expressed their displeasure over the party having denied tickets to Sanjay Jain in Seelampur, Sreechand Tous in Badarpur and Anil Dagar in Najafgarh.

BJP supporters from Ballimaran were angry that Motilal Sodhi had for a second time been declared as the party's candidate against Haroon Yusuf.
"Sodhi was defeated in the last elections but still was given the ticket from Ballimaran. BJP should have projected a strong candidate who can challenge Yusuf," a party worker said.
On the other hand, while the protests were on, Gadkari, a former BJP president and the party's in-charge for Delhi, reportedly held two separate meetings with municipal councillors and the party's district unit presidents, asking them to focus on the upcoming polls and stay united.
Delhi BJP media cell head Harish Khurana, meanwhile, said there were 1,500 aspirants for 70 seats and not all could be handed poll tickets.
