"Two persons have been arrested in Patnitop belt in Ramban district for the alleged sacrilegious act yesterday," a police officer said.
A case had been registered and the two would be subjected to interrogation soon, he said.
Agitators held protests in Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua districts but there was no report of any untoward incident.
"The situation is under control. There is no report of any untoward incident in Jammu region," said Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Zone, Shant Manu.
The first incident of alleged cow slaughter took place in Kathua district on July 28. Yesterday, a similar incident reportedly happened in Ramban district.
Protests were also held in Jammu city by BJP and some social organisations demanding a probe into the two alleged incidents.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed in troubled areas and additional police and CRPF deployed to restore calm.
