Publicise programmes for disabled people: Parl panel

A parliamentary Committee has suggested to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities to give wide publicity to various training programmes, and vocational and rehabilitation services provided to the disabled people through print and electronic media.
The Commitee in its report "Demands for Grants 2016-17" noted that during the year 2015-16, an allocation of Rs 106 crore was made for seven national institutes working in the field of various disabilities.
Out of Rs 106 crore, the Department has released Rs 104.27 crore to national institutes for catering to the needs of disabled persons and providing various types of services to them.

"The Committee is happy to note that the department has been able to spend 98.37 per cent of the budget allocation for 2016-17 under national institutes. However, the Committee is concerned that at individual level, some of the national institutes have not been able to achieve their targets," the Committee said in its report.
"The Committee desires that all national institutes be directed to give wide publicity to various training programmes, educational, vocational and rehabilitation services given by them to disabled people through print and electronic media, in rural and remote areas also, so that maximum disabled person could avail the benefits," it said.
