Pvt transport operators in Haryana contemplate moving court

Accusing the Haryana Roadways unions of preventing their buses from plying and violating the high court orders, private transport operators across the state today said they were contemplating filing contempt of court petition.
"We cannot surrender to the arm tactics of the Haryana Roadways unions in preventing our buses from plying in contravention of the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
"Though we were granted permits for five years from March 2017 under the new State Carriage Scheme 2017, we are not allowed to ply our buses on one pretext or the other at the behest of the roadways union leaders," Ravinder Rawal, legal adviser of the Hayana Cooperative Transport Society Welfare Association, said here.

He alleged the state government was not stopping the "high handedness" of the roadways unions.
"We do not have any option now but to file contempt of court petition in the high court for non-adherence to the court orders," he said.
Association's president Sunil Kumar alleged that in utter disregard of the high court directions, the roadways unions were not allowing private operators to ply their buses on the routes allotted to them.

Notably, the roadways employees had gone on one-day strike last week demanding withdrawal of permits to private bus operators by the state government under the existing policy.

The strike had inconvenienced thousands of commuters who depend on Haryana Roadways buses for commuting.
Rather than thinking of privatising the roadways, the government should think of adding more buses and improving services, the roadways union leaders said.
