A senior section engineer of Northern Railway posted at Kaithal in Haryana has been arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a person.
The complainant was awarded a railway contract for renewal of turn-outs of Narwana-Kurukshetra railway line. He alleged that the accused, identified as Navneet Goyal, was demanding a bribe at the rate of five per cent of the bill for releasing the payment, CBI officials said.
"CBI laid a trap wherein the senior section engineer was caught red handed, while demanding and accepting Rs 40,000 as first instalment of bribe from the complainant," a press release issued by the agency said.
Searches were conducted at the residence of the accused, it said. He will be produced tomorrow in a Panchkula court in Haryana.
