Rains, thunderstorms bring respite in UP

Rain and thundershowers occurred at some places in Uttar Pradesh providing respite from the scorching heat as temperatures mostly remained normal in the state.
While Gorakhpur recorded rainfall of 4 cm, Maharajganj and Khalilabad recorded each 3 cm rain, the MeT department said.
Day temperatures rose markedly in Meerut division, appreciably in Varanasi, Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad, Jhansi Agra divisions and changed little in the remaining divisions over the state.
It was markedly below normal in Gorakhpur, Kanpur divisions, appreciably above normal in Faizabad, Bareilly, Moradabad, Jhansi, Agra, Meerut divisions, below normal in Lucknow division and normal in the remaining divisions of the state.

Banda remained the hottest place with maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius.
