Raj: Bills on MLA disqualification, power distribution passed

The Rajasthan Assembly today passed two bills -- one related to disqualification of lawmakers and the other about power distribution management -- referred one to a select committee of the House, while another was tabled.
The House passed 'Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Members (Prevention of Disqualification) Bill-2017 and 'The Rajasthan State Electricity Distribution Management Responsibility (Amendment) Bill-2017.
The Rajasthan Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutes in the State and of Appointments and Posts in Services Under the State) Bill-2017 was tabled in the House by the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi, whereas the 'CrPC (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill-2017 was referred to the select committee of the House.

The CrPC (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill-2017 Bill, which was introduced in the house on Monday, was proposed to be taken up for discussion tomorrow.
This bill was introduced on Monday along with the controversialCriminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2017, which seeks to protect judges and bureaucrats from probe without the state government's prior sanction.
The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill was also referred to the select committee yesterday after heavy protest by the Opposition.

Replying to the debate on the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Members (Prevention of Disqualification) Bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the government wants to consolidate the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Members (Removal of Disqualification) Act, 1956 and the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Members (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1969 in a single law the bill.

Rathore said the government has taken initiatives to consolidate multiple laws on the same subject into one law.
The ruling party MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari objected to the bill saying it was against the spirit of the Constitution and that the government should reconsider it.
Energy Minister Pushpendra Singh replying to the debate on the The Rajasthan State Electricity Distribution Management Responsibility (Amendment) Bill informed that transmission and distribution losses have reduced in the state.
"The transmission and distribution losses in the state before 2013 were more than 30 per cent which has been reduced during the BJP government rule," he informed.

After the bills were passed, the house was adjourned for the day.
