Renowned Indian designer Rajesh Pratap Singh and international sustainable fibre brand TENCEL are collaborating to present an eco-collection for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018.

For the first time, the designer will be creating an Indian ethnic style collection with womenswear and menswear, the first look of which was revealed at an exclusive preview hosted at MASQUE in Mumbai last evening.

The designer is using a variety of TENCEL yarns and fabrics for his collection 'Welcome to the Jungle TENCEL 2.0' and will be incorporating iconic Indian crafts such as Chanderi, Benarasi, Jamdani, hand-block prints and more.

"Super excited and happy to make a meaningful contribution. I sincerely believe that sustainability is not niche driven fashion. It has to be inclusive and have a wider objective," Singh said in a statement.

Austrian company Lenzing's TENCEL branded lyocell fibres are extracted from natural raw wood which comes from socially and environmentally responsible forests in Europe.

The fibre earns the eco-friendly tag owing to its innovative closed loop production system. This special process received the European Award for the Environment from the European Union.

"We are happy to partner with Rajesh Pratap Singh and Lakme Fashion Week who are at the forefront of conscious clothing movement. Through the latest Welcome to the Jungle TENCEL 2.0 collection by RPS, we are seeking to provide the mainstream audience with discerning taste with an alternative," said Vineet Singhal, SVP (Regional CEO), Asia, Middle East & Africa (AMEA), Lenzing AG.

LFW Winter/Festive 2018 is scheduled to happen from August 22 to 26.
