"It will be impossible for Narayan Rane to win this election, however hard he may try. MIM candidate (Rehbar Khan) will stand second, while Rane will lose his deposit," Sena MP Vinayak Raut said responding to Rane's barb that MIM was in a tacit agreement with the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena.
"This man who is today calling MIM an offspring of BJP-Sena was until yesterday cosying up with that party," Raut said.
The by-election is almost a do-or-die battle for Rane who is seeking to revive his political career after losing from Kudal in Sindhudurg in the last year's Assembly elections.
For Shiv Sena too it is a prestigious contest as party president Uddhav Thackeray lives in the constituency.
Rane had launched a tirade against Uddhav before quitting Sena in 2005 and has continued to target him even afterwards.
