Rawat asks officials to make available local food for Hemkund

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today asked officials to take all steps necessary to make available local cuisine to pilgrims visiting Hemkund Sahib which is scheduled to reopen next month after a six-month winter break.
Rawat, who held meetings with officials in Govindghat and Ghanghariya to assess preparations en route to the famous Sikh shrine located in Garhwal Himalayas, sought additional facilities for devotees this year and asked the officials to make all arrangements for them to savour local food.
Gates of Hemkund Sahib, located at a height of 16,000 ft above sea level, are scheduled to reopen on June 2 after their annual closure for the winters.

An 18 km trek from Govindghat leads to the Gurudwara.
However, a 4 km stretch between Ghangharia and Hemkund is still clogged with snow which is being cleared by the Army and the gurudwara volunteers.
