Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today met Union minister Nitin Gadkari here and discussed several matters including hydro power projects on Alaknanda and Bagirathi rivers.
According to a statement, Rawat told the minister that 33 hydro power projects on Alaknanda and Bagirathi rivers with total capacity of 4060 MW were stalled due to instructions from the National Ganga River Basin Authority and the Supreme Court.
Rawat suggested if a joint affidavit from ministries of power, water resource, and forest and environment is submitted before the apex court, then hurdles on the way of the projects could be cleared, it added.
In about a two-hour-long meeting with the road transport & highways, water resources, river development & Ganga rejuvenation minister projects related to Char Dham all weather road, converting state highways to national highways and Namami Gange projects, were also discussed.
"We have demanded to convert Ramnagar-Karnaprayag state highway to national highway. Besides, we also discussed about converting some other state highways to national highways," Rawat said after the meeting.
Besides deliberating on 300-MW Bawla Nandprayag project on the Alaknanda in Chamoli district, Rawat and Gadkari also discussed issues related to compensation for acquisition of farmers' land, the release said.
Rawat said Uttarakhand has a huge potential for sea-plane mode of transport as the hill state has various big water bodies like Tehri and Nainital lakes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew in a seaplane from the Sabarmati River to Dharoi Dam in Mehsana district today, the last day of campaigning for the Gujarat Assembly polls.
