Based on an allegation that they abused their official position and had exchanged in full the deliberately cut currency notes prepared fraudulently in Chennai branch of RBI, CBI had filed a case against three persons -- RBI Asst Treasurers Kumar Deshraj, K Sakthikumar and Vijay Kumar Agarwal.
Their act has caused a wrongful loss of Rs 33,81,500 to Reserve Bank of India, it said.
A charge sheet was filed against them under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
After completion of trial, XI Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases S Sengottaiyan convicted Deshraj and sentenced him to two years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.
