Regiment of Artillery celebrates 190th Raising Day

The Regiment of Artillery, which has proved its mettle in various operations during war times, today celebrated its 190th Raising Day at Chandimandir Military Station here.
The second largest arm of the Indian Army was raised on this day in 1827.
To commemorate the occasion, a wreath was laid by Maj Gen M L N Sravan Kumar to pay homage to the martyrs at 'Veer Smriti' in Chandimandir, a defence spokesperson said.
The Regiment has proved its mettle during the operations of 1947-48, 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1999.
In addition, since the mid 1980s, gunners as artillery men are referred to have been fighting shoulder to shoulder with infantrymen in counter-insurgency operations in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and the North East.
