Rengmas hold rallies to condemn KPLT "atrocities"

In the backdrop of the ongoing clash between the Rengma Nagas and Karbi ultras in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, the Rengmas in Nagaland supported by all the tribes held mass rallies and extended solidarity to their brethrens in Assam while questioning the silence of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
A major rally was held at the Old MLA Hostel Junction here today, where different speakers condemned the "act of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT) for atrocities meted upon the Rengma Nagas living in Karbi Anglong".
Naga Hoho General Secretary Mutsikhoyo Yhobu appealed to all the concerned people to shun violence and to live as good neighbours.
Advisor Naga Mothers' Association, Sano Vamuzo said that boundary cannot separate the unique identity of a tribe and the "atrocities and killings" meted upon the Nagas by the Karbi people of Assam is condemnable.
She also appealed the Assam Government to take immediate action to free the seized Rengma areas of Karbi Anglong by the KPLT to lead a normal life.
They have urged the Government of Assam to take strong remedial measures by granting ex-gratia to the families of the slain and compensation for the injured and for loss of properties.
The rally demanded deployment of Army in strife-torn areas, arrest of all the miscreants involved in the carnage, banning of KPLT militant group by the Assam Government and the and setting up of Commission by the Assam Government to study the root cause of Karbi and Rengma dispute which has taken the form of ethnic strife.
