National Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice K G Balakrishnan today asked people to respect human rights and values and work towards safeguarding them.
"We should respect human rights and values and abide by the laws. NHRC is committed to protect and safeguard the liberty, equality and dignity of every individual," he said at the 21st foundation day ceremony of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) here.
Justice Balakrishnan said NHRC has been doing service to human being from the very beginning to prevent violation of human rights across the country.
"Right from its inception, NHRC has been working consistently to prevent violation of human rights everywhere in the country. We tell the public to maintain laws of the land and respect them...It is very important," he said.
He said completing 21 years was an important milestone for the commission and it means that it should now work even harder on human rights issues.
He also congratulated Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi who was closely associated with NHRC.
"I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to Kailash Satyarthi for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. NHRC is proud of him," he said
