The North Delhi Municipal Corporation today asked Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited to restore power supply to streetlights in various areas under jurisdiction of the civic body which was cut due to unpaid dues.
"The matter relating to the revision of electricity tariff for street lights by the TPDDL is under active consideration of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
"However, the decision of TPDDL to abruptly disconnect street lights due to non revision of tariff needs serious reconsideration as it impacts the security and safety of the citizens," said an official statement from NDMC.
TPDDL had cut power supply to streetlights and parks in north Delhi after the two parties failed to resolve the row over payment of unpaid dues.
The power company contends that NDMC owes it Rs 35 crore, while the latter disputes this figure.
"The amount of arrears claimed by the DISCOM, TPDDL is under verification and financial scrutiny. The TPDDL also owes arrears of Property Tax to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. This claim of NDMC is subjudice and is under stay order," the NDMC said.
"The whole issue is under active consideration of the Corporation and is likely to be resolved shortly, pending which the decision of TPDDL to disconnect street lights needs serious review," it added.
