'Reviewing strategy to counter militant attacks on security

Militant attacks on security forces are aimed at "provoking them to overreact" and Jammu and Kashmir Police is reviewing its strategy to deal with such strikes, state police chief Ashok Prasad said today.
"We are reviewing our strategy afresh (to deal with militant attacks on police and security forces) and we are confident that we will be able to manage the situation," the Director General of Police told reporters at Lethpora, 21 kms from here.
The officer was addressing the passing out parade of the third batch of basic recruits at Commando Training Centre Lethpora, 21 kms from here.
He said police is working on a strategy to counter the "planned militant attacks" which will have maximum effectiveness with minimum impact on general public.

"We will not allow the peaceful situation to be vitiated," Prasad said.
Claiming that infiltration from across the border and overall militant violence is down, the DGP said bulk of the incidents, which are "more sensational", were on police and security forces.
"There are two parts of militancy -- one which affects public and which had shown no increase and infact has been reduced. But, as far as attacks on police and security forces are concerned, it is done in a planned manner and is a result of our change of tactics to give public some relief," he said.
The police officer said militants are trying to "provoke security forces into overreacting" that can lead to inconvenience to the public.
