Robbers stole gold ornaments worth over Rs one crore after breaking ten safe deposit lockers at the Munga branch of Bank of India, around 35 km from here.
The police officers investigating the robbery today said the miscreants used gas cutters to break the lockers, but failed to cut the chest of the bank.
They entered the bank from the rear side after breaking a window and crime was most likely committed between Saturday and Sunday, a senior police officer said.
There was no security guard at night at the bank.
The incident was noticed at around 9.25 AM today when branch manager Shambhu Ram reached the bank and asked the generator operator to start the generator.
The operator informed him about the broken window and the branch manager immediately informed police.
Nirsa deputy superintendent of police (DSP) R K Ram, Inspector Shailendra Singh and other officers soon reached the spot.
Though senior officials of the bank were still calculating the valuation of ornaments looted by the miscreants, the branch manager claimed the estimated worth of the ornaments was over Rs one crore.
No arrests have been made as yet and investigations were on, the DSP said.
