The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today said it would raise funds for earthquake-hit people of Nepal.
CITU said it has directed its functionaries to organize relief in quake-hit states like UP, Bihar and West Bengal too.
"CITU conveys its heartfelt grief to the near and dear ones of more than three thousand people who lost their lives in earthquakes in Nepal and also to the Nepalese people in general.
"CITU stands in solidarity with the Nepalese people confronting the devastation, which it has already conveyed through messages to the fraternal trade union organizations there. CITU has also decided to extend financial and material help to the brothers and sisters in Nepal who suffered immense loss owing to this devastating natural calamity," CITU General Secretary Tapan Sen said in a statement.
Sen further said it has asked its state committees, federations and affiliated units to collect funds and deposit it with the CITU centre, from where assistance will be extended to Nepal as an "immediate response", he added.
