The two robbers walked into the ATM of State Bank group and thrashed Laxmichand (60), a guard hired by a private security agency, and also tried to strangle him, Karnivihar police station Investigating Officer Ramesh Chand said.
They then ripped out portions of the machine with rods but could not succeed as the guard made a call to police, the IO said.
As per the banker there was over Rs 8 lakh cash in the machine which was still intact, he said, adding, police were on a lookout for the robbers.
