Official sources said that the incident in Rohtak had been brought to the notice of WCD Minister Krishna Tirath, who may even take up the matter of ensuring the safety of children in shelter homes with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A senior Ministry official said that Tirath would write to the Haryana Chief Minister asking for more stringent measures -- a responsibility of the state government under the Juvenile Justice Act -- to be put in place for monitoring the functioning of shelter homes.

Tirath is also said to be in favour of constitution of a special team to inspect the shelter homes. The team would comprise of officials, activists and others officials.

In the Rohtak episode, children were rescued following the raid by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) at the shelter house after allegations surfaced that the inmates were being abused by the officials and outsiders.
