Romanian climber asks Pakistan to improve security

A Romanian mountaineer today asked Pakistan to enhance security for climbers to prevent incidents like a deadly attack that left 10 foreign trekkers dead last month.
Zsolt Torok was perched on an icy ridge on the 8,126-metre Nanga Parbat, away from the base camp where terrorists wearing paramilitary uniforms brutally killed an American, two Chinese, three Ukrainians, two Slovaks, a Lithuanian, a Nepalese and their local cook on June 22.
"There should be more security for foreign tourists in the country," Torok told reporters in Islamabad.
He was part of a five-member Romanian team that could not be recalled after the attack as they were already far up the peak.

Torok and three colleagues reached the summit of the peak, also known among climbers as the Killer Mountain.
"The news of the killing of the foreign climbers shocked us all but we did not give up our mission and Nanga Parbat proved to be a very good experience for us," he said.

Torok said Pakistani authorities enhanced security after the attack but more should be done to prevent any further incidents.
He promised to come back as "Pakistan has very famous and beautiful mountains and beautiful areas".
The attack was a grim reminder of threats from Islamic rebels who have killed more than 40,000 people, including over 5,000 soldiers, over the past six years.

Apart from militancy, severe weather has taken a toll this year as three Iranian climbers and a German woman trekker have been killed in accidents on different peaks.
Four Spanish climbers have been listed as missing and authorities have not had any success in locating them.
