Two senior IPS officers have been appointed to head the specialised NDRF and Railway Protection Force (RPF).
1979-batch Bihar cadre IPS officer Krishna Chaudhary will be Director General of RPF, while ITBP Additional DG Mahboob Alam has been made NDRF chief in place of Chaudhary.
Alam is a 1981-batch officer from Tamil Nadu cadre and was serving in the border guarding Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Chaudhary's tenure is till June 2017 and Alam will retire in May this year.
RPF is mandated to secure the Indian Railways network apart from rendering some specific tasks in internal security domain.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is the premier disaster rescue and operations force under the Home Ministry.
NDRF had played a key role in rescue operations during last year's massive floods and rains in Uttarakhand.
