Rs 13.96 cr for maintenance of colleges in Punjab

Punjab government today released Rs 13.96 crore for maintenance of 40 government colleges located in 17 districts of the state.
The grant was provided to ensure that basic amenities including drinking water, electric works, computer rooms, class rooms, laboratories and canteen facilities are available in the colleges, a government spokesman said.
The state government is committed to provide quality higher education in government degree colleges and special emphasis is laid on creation of requisite infrastructure in these institutions, he said.
Seven more such government degree colleges were being set up in five districts to ensure higher education facilities in remote rural areas of the state, he added.
