Revenue officials said Gopichettipalayam Sub-Collector Krishnan Unni conducted a surprise raid some days back and found massive quanities of granite being cut from one of the 10 quarries owned by the man without government permisson.
The Sub-Collector found 51,300 cubic meters of granite cut, conducted an enquiry and levied a fine of Rs 4,75,55,100 on the quarry owner and ordered him to pay it within a week.
Two quarry owners were fined Rs 15.30 lakhs each and another 10.27 lakh. They said.
