BDO Kamalika Mukhopadhyay said the MUV, travelling from Kolkata to Birbhum, was intercepted at the checkpost and the cash seized from the occupants.
With poll code of conduct in force, carrying cash worth over Rs 20,000 for ordinary people and Rs over Rs 50,000 for VIPs is not allowed in vehicles as per EC guidelines, she said.
The three occupants in the car, including the driver, claimed the money was toll tax collection and being taken to concerned toll tax office in Khairasol.
The three included one Aminul Haq from Birbhum who claimed to be the leader of the group.
