Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien was today shown black flags on the MG University campus here by a group of people said to be activists of BJP Yuva Morcha, who claimed he abruptly adjourned the Upper House during a debate on Rohith Vemula suicide and the JNU incident.
The protesters accused Kurien of adjourning the Rajya Sabha while HRD Minister Smriti Irani was replying to the debate on Thursday.
As Kurien arrived at the university in Athirampuzha to inaugurate an inter-university centre of organic farming, the activists stopped his vehicle at the gate and shouted "go back".
When contacted, University Vice-Chancellor Babu Sebastian said the police was aware of the incident.
Police said a group of people blocked Kurien's way and waved black flags when he was about to enter the university.
Kurien, a senior Congress leader from Kerala, stopped the vehicle seeing the protesters and was enquiring about it when the activists broke the police security and rushed towards his car shouting slogans.
They were, however, immediately removed from the scene, police said.
Though Kurien insisted he had no complaint, top officials said they have asked the police to register a case against those who participated in the incident.
Kurien could not be reached for his reaction.
Irani's reply to a short duration discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday was cut short as the House was abruptly adjourned by Kurien, who was in the chair, after an uproar when she read out certain comments from a pamphlet.
