RSS today claimed that it has been able to expand rapidly in last one year with 90 per cent of its 'shakhas' having students and professionals below the age of 40 years.
The Sangh fountainhead claimed there were 56,859 'shakhas' or groups organized by it at local level across the country.
The number of RSS shakhas increased "exponentially" in last one year as compared to the last year. "Between 2012 and 2015, 10,413 came up while in 2015 to 2016, 5,524 shakhas were added," Sah-Sar Karyawah Krishna Gopal, said.
A total of 56,859 shakhas were being conducted in 95 per cent of the districts in the country, he said as the annual meeting of Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision making body of the RSS, began here.
Of the total, 65.6 per cent shakhas were of only students.
In 25.3 per cent shakhas, the participants are young entrepreneurs, professions who are below the age of 40.
These two categories comprises 91 per cent of the total shakhas in the country.
"Rest nine per cent of the shakhas are those in which participants are over the age of 40," Gopal said.
"Due to the effort of our volunteers, our area of function has increased. Our volunteers went among the people and explained our work to them which resulted in the growth," he said.
Gopal said that 83 training camps were conducted in the country last year.
