Runaway 'mastermind' of Chg train hijack held in Jharkhand
Press Trust of India Raipur Undertrial prisoner Upendra Singh who was freed by members of his gang in an audacious "hijack' of a train in Durg district of Chhattisgarh last month, was today arrested in a joint operation in Jharkhand, a senior officer said.
"Upendra Singh was arrested from Bank Mod area of Dhanbad district (Jharkhand) by a joint team of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh Police," SP Dhanbad, Ravi Kant Dhan told PTI over phone.
On February 6, around eight armed criminals "hijacked" the Gondia-Raigarh Jan Satabdi Express near Kumhari railway station of the district for one-and-a-half kilometres to set Singh free.
Singh was returning to Bilaspur in the train under police escort, including two constables and a head constable, after attending the hearing at Durg court.
"Six persons have already been arrested in this connection and the process to bring back Singh to Chhattisgarh is underway," a senior officer said.
Singh was among the main culprits involved in the kidnapping of a businessman Jaichand Baid four years back.
