The rupee opened lower at 63.67 per dollar as against yesterday's closing level of 63.60 at the inter-bank foreign exchange here.
The Indian unit stayed weak to trade between 63.74 and 63.63 during morning trade before quoting at 63.73 at 1045 hrs.
Persistent dollar demand and weak domestic equities loomed over the rupee sentiment, a dealer said.
The US dollar inched lower against its major rivals in earlier Asian trade, showing scant reaction so far to US President Donald Trumps State of the Union address.
