The Primorsky region administration said the Su-25 warplane went down today during a routine training mission. The cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear.
Rossiya state television showed the jet streaking down and then exploding in the village of Chernigovka. It interviewed a resident who said the plane crashed into a barn just outside his house.
The Su-25 is a twin-engine ground attack aircraft that has been a mainstay of the Soviet and then Russian air force since the 1980s. It has also been widely exported. Su-25 planes have recently been involved in the Russian air campaign in Syria.
