A work by M F Husain which he painted for the main entrance arch leading to the Indian Trade Fair in Caracas in the late 1980s fetched the second highest bid when it went for a hammer price of Rs 1.83 crore (inclusive of buyers premium), auctioneers said today.
Approximately 77 per cent of the lots were sold in the fifth Modern and Contemporary Art auction by AstaGuru with four lots selling for more than one crore.
A set of 10 works of pen on paper by F N Souza went for Rs Rs 1,303,869.
Works by Jamini Roy, H A Gade, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Manu Parekh, T Vaikuntam, Jogen Choudhury, Ganesh Pyne, Krishen Khanna, Bikash Bhattarchjee, Akbar Padamsee, Rameshwar Broota, Manjit Bawa, Sakti Burman, Satish Gujral are among the others which were included in the auction.
The auction house had previously said it would donate one per cent of the funds collected through the sale to support the cause of avoidable blindness through Standard Chartered's "Seeing is Believing" initiative.
