Saaniya Sharma carded a one under 69 to grab lead in the first round of the fourth leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour event, here today.
Trailing her in second position with an even par score is the Delhi youngster Vani Kapoor.
Chandigarh's Saaniya Sharma had an indifferent start, carding a bogey on the very first hole but was able to neutralise the damage by carding birdies on the second and sixth holes in her front nine.
On her way in, she carded a double bogey on the 12th hole. However, she controlled the damage by carding birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. Vani's even par round included a bogey and a birdie a piece in her front nine on the 1st and 7th holes, while following a smilier script in her back nine by carding a birdie on the 13th hole followed by a bogey on the 14th.
Panchkula's Amandeep Drall and Gurgaon's Gaurika Bishnoi are tied third with identical scores of one over 71. Amandeep would have hoped for a better start as she carded a birdie less front nine, while dropping a shot on the 2nd hole.
Her return journey started on a similar note as she carded bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes, but birdies on the 13th and 15th helped her salvage the situation. Gaurika Bishnoi's card on the day included birdies on the 6th and 8th holes, while dropping shots on the 3rd, 13th and 17th.
Kolkata's Smriti Mehra carded birdies on the 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th holes while dropping shots on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 13th, 16th and 17th, to take the fifth position with a score of two over 72.
New Delhi's Mehar Atwal carded three over 73 to take the sixth position, with birdies on the 7th and 13th holes, and bogeys on the 1st, 10th, 14th, 16th and 18th.
Jaipur's Afshan Fatima is in seventh position with a score of four over 74, followed by Hero MotoCorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet in eighth with a score of five over 75.
