Sports Authority of India's acting Director General, Gopal Krishna has been transferred to the Ministry of Law and Justice as a joint secretary.
Krishna received his transfer order yesterday and took over the charge of his new portfolio this morning, an official said.
Krishna was serving as the acting SAI DG since July last year after Desh Deepak Verma was transferred to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs as secretary.
Krishna was serving as a secretary under Verma's tenure as SAI DG. The post of DG is equivalent to the rank of additional secretary.
The West Bengal IAS cadre officer, Krishna's term in the SAI was to expire on May 14th this year.
When Ashwani Kumar, who is at present serving as the Law minister, was minister of state for Industry and Commerce during UPA-I, Krishna had served under him as joint secretary.
The name of Kerala cadre IAS officer, Jiji Thomson has emerged as the possible successor to Krishna.
Thomson is presently working as the Managing Director of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED).
When contacted, Thomson said he is yet to receive his posting order.
"This is a news to me. I have not yet received my transfer orders. I can only comment on the subject once I receive any official communication," Thomson told PTI.
Thomson had also served as the special director-general, Organising Committee, 2010 Commonwealth Games.
