Salgaocar FC today ended the five- match unbeaten streak of Shillong Lajong FC and earned their first away win during the round 19 Hero I-League encounter at the J N Stadium here, beating the host 3-1.
An Augustin Fernandes goal as early as the eighth minute had the host in disarray before Bikash Jairu and Douhou Pierre sealed the day for the visitors.
As for Shillong Lajong, Uilliams Bomfins scored their only goal of the day worsening their position in the table.
Derrick Pereira was rewarded when he made four key changes to the team that went down fighting East Bengal in Kolkata 1-0.
Their star keeper Subrata Paul was rested and Karanjit Singh was given a chance to prove his worth under the bar, while Zambian defender Francis Kasonde, striker Bikash Jairu and Jaison Valles replaced Rosario Mendes, Zakeer Mundampara and Darryl Duffy respectively.
The Goans were all charged up and were rewarded in the eighth minute when Augustin Fernandes scored through a free-kick as Lajong keeper Rehenesh TP was caught off his line during a melee.
Fighting back, Salgaocar keeper Karanjit Singh had to stretch to his right to punch the ball away when Uilliams shot a near perfect curling free kick from just outside the box.
Twelve minutes later, Jairu scored his team's second goal when he outran Lajong defender and netted a fine goal in the 22nd minute.
Lajong made some dangerous passes in their opponent's goal, but their chances went in vain.
The Trinidad and Tobago international and their star striker Glen negotiated well to get past two defenders only to find his colleague Boithang Haokip wanting and missed to net it in the 35th minute.
Just before the lemon break, Lajong keeper suffered another miss when Douhou Pierre netted his first to make it 3-0 for his side.
Returning from the break, Lajong made some dangerous headway into the Salgaocar side.
A powerful right footer from Haokip had their keeper display his skills to deny it from going under the net.
Seventeen minutes later, Uilliams struck the only goal for Lajong combining well with Glen.
Eight minutes later, Glen's left-footer from inside the box went wide even as his chances went missing due to powerful defense of the visitors.
The Goans have earned 17 points from 15 matches, while Shillong Lajong retained only 13 points from 14 matches.
