A local court in Navi Mumbai today remanded Raghuveer Singh, arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of his mother Sandhya Singh, in custody of crime branch till December 27.
Raghuveer was taken into custody after he turned himself in before crime branch unit VI, after the Supreme Court turned down his application seeking anticipatory bail last week.
Sandhya was the sister of yesteryear actress Vijeta Pandit and music composer duo Jatin and Lalit Pandit.
Raghuveer today moved an application in the Belapur court, saying his interrogation should be done in presence of an ACP-level officer and be videographed.
He also demanded that he should be subjected to medical examination every 12 hours and not be interrogated for more than three hours at a stretch.
However, the court rejected his application after crime branch informed there was no such provision in law.
Sandhya Singh (50) went missing on December 14 last year after she had left her flat in Seawoods Darave area in Navi Mumbai.
Her skeletal remains were found dumped in marsh in Nerul area in Navi Mumbai on January 28 this year.
The investigation into the murder was subsequently transferred to the crime branch of Mumbai Police after local police failed to crack the case.
The crime branch had earlier interrogated several persons, including Raghuveer, his girlfriend Shreya, and Sandhya's husband Jai Prakash Singh.
According to crime branch sources, investigators suspect that Raghuveer might have knowledge of how his mother died.
Raghuveer used to often pick fights with his mother over petty issues, especially pertaining to money, and reportedly had a heated argument with her on the day she went missing.
