Justice Sikri, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court and Justice Bobde, Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court have been appointed as judges of the Supreme Court, a Law Ministry statement said here.
Justice Sikri enrolled as an advocate in July, 1977 with Bar Council of Delhi and was designated as senior advocate by Delhi High Court in September, 1997.
He was appointed as judge of the Delhi High Court in July, 1999 and became the acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in October, 2011. He was elevated as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court in September, 2012.
He joined Madhya Pradesh High Court in October, 2012 as Chief Justice.
With the two fresh appointments, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has gone up to 30. The approved strength of the apex court, including the Chief Justice, is 31.
