The headmistress of a panchayat union school was found dead in a gutter near here on Thursday, police said.
Kalarani (50), the head of Ponnarampatti Panchayat Union School, was reportedly in the habit of drinking and she was on leave for the past two days, the police said.
Passersby found Kalarani's body in the gutter and informed the police.
The body has been shifted for a postmortem, they said, adding that a case of suspicious death has been registered.
Kalarani, married to Syed Hamid, has three sons and a daughter.
