The Kavi Nagar police today arrested a man who allegedly ferried attackers in his vehicle after they shot at and injured TV journalist Anuj Chaudhary earlier this month at Razapur village here, police said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna (SSP) said Babloo Kumar was arrested following a tip-off. The SSP said Kumar was nabbed as he alighted from a car on the service road near the Shastri Nagar petrol pump.

Babloo is said to be a close aide of Shekhar Chaudhary, the alleged mastermind presently lodged at the Dasna jail, who hatched a conspiracy to eliminate scribe Anuj Chaudhary, he said.

This is a sixth arrest in this case. Earlier this week, the police had arrested Vishal Chaudhary, Yogendra alias Tunda, Bobby and Vikas.

Also, alleged sharpshooter Rohit Yadav was arrested by Sihani Gate police after an encounter in a forlorn area of Ataur Nangla village of on Monday night while his accomplice had managed to escape.

During the gunfight, Rohit sustained bullet injuries in his leg while Sihani Gate SHO Vinod Pandey received wound in his left arm. Both were rushed a private hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Rohit was hired by Shekhar for Rs 7 lakh to kill the journalist and a part payment of Rs 5 lakh was made to him.

The police had recovered four country-made pistols of different bores and 10 live cartridges from their possession. The looted licensee pistol of scribe was also sized from their possession.

The enmity dates back to 2003, when Moosa alias Sensor, the elder brother of Anuj, and his partner Pirthvi were allegedly shot dead by Shekhar over a land dispute. FIRs were registered against Shekhar at the Kavi Nagar police station in both the cases, police said.

Now the old enmity has again surfaced between Shekhar and Anuj in the wake of the civic polls this year.

Anuj is the husband of Nisha Chaudhary, presently the BSP councilor in the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam.
