: Sekar P and Raghul Paneer stole the show in the seniors category on the opening day of the 6th Covelong Point Surf,Music and Yoga Festival at nearby Kovalam.
Of the 23 surfers from across the country who participated in the initial rounds, 12 made it through to tomorrow's competition, a press note said.
Surfers across all the categories were given 15 minutes each to compete under testing conditions in the sea.
Within these 15 minutes the surfers are allowed to catch 10 waves to showcase their skills, and the best two waves for each are accounted towards their competition scores by the judges.
Winners were judged on the basis of the manoeuvres performed by each surfer in the water and their ability to catch the wave.
Events are being held in the following categories: Novice (under-12), Groms (under-16), Junior (17-22 years),Senior (23-30 years), Masters (31 and above), Women and Open (for foreign nationals).
Former Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman and former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes witnessed the first day of the competitions.
Both are avid surfers and were seen surfing around after the competitions were over on day one.
